Normandy American CemeteryColleville-sur-Mer, France 2:01 P.M. CEST      THE PRESIDENT:  The hour had nearly come.  Monday, June 5th, 1944.       The evil of (inaudible) Third Reich was devastating the world.  Nazi Germany had subjugated the once-free nations of Europe through brute force, lies, and twisted ideology of racial superiority.  Millions of Jews murdered in the Holocaust.  Millions of others killed by bombs, bullets, bloody warfare.  Hitler and those with him thought democracies were weak, that the future belonged to dictators.  Here, on the coast of Normandy, the battle between freedom and tyranny would be joined.  Here, on that June morning,…

On the DPRK’s Recent Launches Using Ballistic Missile Technology

The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) May 27 and May 29 launches using ballistic missile technology in direct violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions (UNSCRs).  These launches continue the DPRK’s reckless behavior, which poses a grave threat to the Korean Peninsula, the region, and international peace and security and undermine the global non-proliferation regime.  The United States reiterates that its commitments to the defense of the ROK and Japan are ironclad. The DPRK’s actions will only intensify its isolation as it undermines stability and security on the Korean Peninsula.  We will continue…

Statement from President Joe Biden on the May Jobs Report

The great American comeback continues, but we still have to make more progress. On my watch, 15.6 million more Americans have the dignity and respect that comes with a job. Unemployment has been at or below 4% for 30 months—the longest stretch in 50 years. And a record high share of working-age women have jobs. I will keep fighting to lower costs for families like the ones I grew up with in Scranton. I’m fighting corporate greed by calling on corporations with record profits to lower prices—as Target and Walmart have for grocery prices. I’m fighting to make rent more affordable…

Excerpts from President Joe Biden Speech on 80th Anniversary of D-Day at Pointe du Hoc

“When we talk about democracy  – American democracy – we often talk big ideas like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. What we don’t talk about enough is how hard it is.” “American democracy asks the hardest of things: to believe that we’re a part of something bigger than ourselves. So democracy begins with each of us.” — “I’ve long said that history has shown that ordinary Americans can do the most extraordinary things. And there’s no better example of that in the entire world than right here at Pointe du Hoc. Rangers from farms, from cities, from every part of America.” — As we gather here today, it’s not just to honor those who showed such remarkable bravery that day June 6, 1944. It’s to listen to…
