     On August 9, 2023, by Executive Order 14105, I declared a national emergency pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.) to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States constituted by the advancement by countries of concern in sensitive technologies and products critical for the military, intelligence, surveillance, or cyber­enabled capabilities of such countries.  As described in Executive Order 14105, this threat to the national security of the United States has its source in whole or substantial part outside the United States, and certain United States…

The United States welcomes the open-ended ceasefire in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced by Angola on July 30.  We applaud the Government of Angola, and in particular Angolan President and AU Champion for Peace and Reconciliation João Lourenço, for his mediation efforts.  We welcome the Angola-led Ad Hoc Verification Mechanism’s important role in monitoring the ceasefire.  We commend the governments of the DRC and Rwanda for their commitment to pursue negotiations to end this conflict.  The United States stands ready to support the implementation and monitoring of the ceasefire, in particular through the Angolan Ad Hoc Verification Mechanism’s efforts.  As the…

Secretary Mayorkas Announces Extension and Redesignation of Haiti for Temporary Protected Status Release Date: June 28, 2024 WASHINGTON—Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas today announced the extension and redesignation of Haiti for Temporary Protected Status for 18 months, from Aug. 4, 2024, to Feb. 3, 2026, due to extraordinary and temporary conditions in Haiti.
