Excerpts from Remarks as Prepared for Delivery by President Biden on Averting Default and the Bipartisan Budget Agreement

Essential to all the progress we’ve made in the last few years is keeping the full, faith, and credit of the United States and passing a budget that continues to grow our economy and reflects our values as a nation. And that’s why I’m speaking to you tonight. To report on a crisis averted and what we are doing to protect America’s future. Passing this budget agreement was critical. The stakes could not have been higher. … No one got everything they wanted but the American people got what they needed. We averted an economic crisis and an economic collapse.…

Statement from President Joe Biden Marking National Gun Violence Awareness Day

In the last year alone, we’ve lost more than 40,000 Americans to gun violence. Countless other survivors of gun violence will carry the trauma for the rest of their lives. In the last two years, I’ve been able to sign the most significant gun safety legislation in decades and have taken dozens of executive actions. But it’s not nearly enough. I will keep fighting to do everything I possibly can, but the reality is that it will take Congressional action to make the kinds of meaningful reforms we need to keep our communities safe. A broad majority of Americans want to see…

Remarks by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan for the Arms Control Association (ACA) Annual Forum

National Press Club Thank you, Tom, for that very important set of introductory comments and for the kind words. I also want to thank Daryl for bringing us all together today. And most importantly—I want to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to just say a few words here this morning. *** 60 years ago next month—in grainy, black and white video—President Kennedy addressed the nation. He was sitting behind the same Resolute desk that President Biden sits behind now nearly every day, and that I sit across from him nearly every day. “My fellow citizens,” he…

Statement from President Joe Biden on May Jobs Report

Today is a good day for the American economy and American workers.  We learned this morning that the economy created 339,000 jobs last month.  We have now created over 13 million jobs since I took office. That is more jobs in 28 months than any President has created in an entire 4-year term.  We also learned that the unemployment rate has been under 4 percent for 16 months in a row. The last time our nation had such a long stretch of low unemployment was in the 1960s. And the share of working age Americans in the workforce is at its…

Statement from President Joe Biden on Senate Passage of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement

Tonight, Senators from both parties voted to protect the hard-earned economic progress we have made and prevent a first-ever default by the United States. Together, they demonstrated once more that America is a nation that pays its bills and meets its obligations—and always will be. I want to thank Leader Schumer and Leader McConnell for quickly passing the bill. No one gets everything they want in a negotiation, but make no mistake: this bipartisan agreement is a big win for our economy and the American people. It protects the core pillars of my Investing in America agenda that is creating good…

Remarks by Vice President Harris in a Press Call on Addressing Racial Bias in Home Appraisals

Via Teleconference THE VICE PRESIDENT:  Thank you.  And good afternoon, everyone.  Thank you for joining us.  And it is good to be with all of you to address a subject that is essential to the financial wellbeing of millions of American families — and that is the issue of home appraisal. So, I think we all would agree homeownership is an essential part of the American dream.  Homeownership is one of the single most powerful engines of wealth-b- — building available to American families.  Millions rely on the equity in their homes to put their children through college, to fund…
